BRAMPTON, ON (February 14, 2022) – The City of Brampton continues to call on the Provincial Government to review and reform auto insurance rates in Ontario.
In April 2021, Brampton City Council unanimously passed a resolution detailing how Brampton residents were paying the highest auto insurance rates in Ontario, and launched its #FairDealForBrampton campaign. To date, more than 19,000 residents have participated in the campaign by signing the petition.
Last month, RATESDOTCA published an article on car insurance premiums for Ontario cities based on its Auto Insuramap, which maps out premiums based on postal codes. The article references the City’s #FairDealForBrampton campaign to prohibit insurance companies from using postal codes or area codes as primary factors in setting insurance rates. In Brampton, rates fell 26.8 per cent, or from $2,698 to $1,975, in 2021. Brampton went from the most expensive city in Ontario to the fourth most expensive city.
Brampton City Council asks that the Government of Ontario bring Bill 42, the Ending Discrimination in Automobile Insurance Act, forward, to make life equitable and more affordable for Brampton residents.
