Voting Information

​​​​​​​Every four years, in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act​, the City Clerk, acting as a Returning Officer, conducts elections for the offices of:

  • Mayor
    • ​One to be elected by all voters of the municipality
  • Regional Councillor
    • One to be elected for each ward pairing
  • City Councillor
    • One to be elected for each ward pairing
  • School Board Trustee for:
    • ​Peel District School Board (English Public)
      • One to be elected for each ward pairing
    • ​Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (English Separate)
      • Three to be elected across Brampton
    • Conseil scolaire Viamonde (French Public)
      • One to be elected across Region of Peel
    • Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (French Separate)
      • One to be elected across Brampton, Caledon, Guelph and Dufferin and Wellington counties​

Brampton is divided into 10 wards​ and voters elect representatives for their specific ward pairing, along with Mayor, and​ school board trustees if applicable. The candidate with the highest​ number of votes is elected to office.

Voters who are on the Voter​s' List will receive a voter notice in the mail with details about where and when to vote. If you do not receive a voter notice, you may not be on the Voters' List. Check if your voter information is up to date using the Am I On the List​ tool or request to add your name to the list.

In the 2026 Municipal Election, Brampton voters will be required to go to the voting location to cast their ballot.

Voting is easy!

  1. Go to the voting location with your voter notice and a piece of identification.​
  2. The election worker will search your name on the Voters' List and mark you as voted.
  3. The election worker will give you a voting ballot.
  4. You will go behind the voting screen and mark your ballot.
  5. Once you have finished marking your ballot, the tabulator attendant will feed the ballot through the vote tabulator.
  6. The machine will tabulate all ballot results at the end of Voting Day.​
