The Brampton Entrepreneur Centre, in partnership with the Government of Ontario, is pleased to announce the launch of the Small Business Accelerator (A Starter Company Plus program) for 2020. As part of the Economic Recovery Strategy, we will be launching a special Recovery Stream to support existing businesses in Brampton/Caledon who have been negatively affected by COVID-19.
 
The Starter Company Plus Recovery Stream is a great opportunity for existing business owners looking for help with pivoting or expanding their business.  As a participant of the program, you will receive tailored training, mentorship, and the opportunity to apply for a provincial grant of up to $3,000 to help you improve the feasibility and resilience of your business.

UPDATE: This intake is for existing businesses effect by COVID19 (RECOVERY STREAM). 
Our next intake will be for both Start-ups and Early-stage businesses. 
 
 

Selection Process: 

 
  • Complete the Starter Company Plus Application. 
  • Next intake period opens at noon on June 1st, 2020, and will close at noon on June 12th, 2020.​

  • Participate in mandatory training and mentorship (8-12 weeks)

  • Prepare and submit your Business Plan or Business Model Canvas with Financials

  • If you score at least 80% on your Business Plan or Business Model Canvas you will have an opportunity to receive a grant of $3,000.

    • Please note, preference will be given to businesses that meet the following requirements:
      •Have the ability to create sufficient economic impact
      •Storefront location
      •Possibility for job creation
      •Sustainable business model with potential to scale
      •Fulfills market demand in priority industries

  • One-on-one guidance from the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre advisors

  • Access to business workshops and networking events on topics from creating a business pl​an and budgeting to executing a marketing campaign

  •  
  • Training and business skills development and an opportunity to receive a grant of up to $3,000 to expand an existing business.  Topics Include:

    • How to Create a Plan to Relaunch Your Business. 
    • Marketing to Relaunch Your Business 
    • Digital Advertising & Marketing Strategies 
    • Cash Flow Management Strategies
    • Business Financials
    • Business PR Strategies 
    • Business Operations

​Eligibility Requirements will include:​

 
  • Business must be located in Brampton / Caledon

  • Businesses must be in operation for a minimum of 12 months and generating revenue.

  • Demonstrate a 30% reduction in revenue over the previous year

  • Affected by COVID-19 and experiencing a loss in revenue

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Have 10 or less employees

  • Not a full-time student and/or planning to return to school fulltime in the next 3 years

  • A minimum average of 35 hours a week running your business

  • Demonstrate 25% cash or equivalent commitment to the business ($750)

  • Prepared to commit to the monthly mentorship requirements for a minimum of three months

  • Prepared to commit to the business training components of the program

 
 
    *If you have already received a Starter Company Plus Grant you are not eligible to apply.
 

 

Eligible use of funds include:

  • Investments in the development of new products or revenue streams

  • Investments in enhancing the digital presence of business (ie. executing digital marketing strategies, improvements or development of website)

    ​Funds from the program cannot be used:

  • For the purchase or lease of a vehicle

  • To service existing debts

  • To make rent payments

  • To cover general operating expenses

  • To cover salary and wages

  • Additional Requirements

  • Established Business Training is completed online and mentoring is offered in a virtual group setting.  

  • The Brampton Entrepreneur Centre will make the final decision as to who is eligible for the program

  • An established business is one that has been actively operating with revenues for at least ONE year and can show sales. 

  • Please note, your business must have started on or before April 1st, 2019.  Any business that has started after April 1st, 2019 will be ineligible for the grant but can participate in the training and mentoring.

  • Applicants approved to receive a Starter Company Plus grant must use the funds to improve the feasibility and resilience of their business.

  • You will also be required to complete one (1) mentorship sessions  (You will be responsible for setting up our one-on-one mentorship sessions if you are accepted in the Recovery Stream)
