Shake It Up! Student Shakespeare Festival

Shake It Up!The SHAKE it Up! Student Shakespeare Festival provides a forum for students from different schools to work together to perform a Shakespearean play on stage at the Rose Theatre Brampton. With the support of the Rose Theatre Academy, each school creates a team of actors, stage managers, crew, and designers and then prepares, workshops and rehearses a section of the play that has been assigned to them. At the SHAKE it Up! Student Shakespeare Festival, all the schools involved meet and put their pieces together to create a complete play which is performed for the public.

This non-competitive environment is a unique opportunity as the students are able to look at a Shakespearean play and understand through experiential learning how it works, why it works, how they can find a relation in their own lives and the world today, and then share these discoveries. SHAKE it UP! helps to demystify a part of the school curriculum that students often find intimidating while emphasizing practical training in theatrical skills. As the students work on the project together, applying their newly formed skills, they boost their self-confidence and creativity while building leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
