Parking Restrictions Before and After Storms
In addition to responding to requests from the public, enforcement officers enforce the City’s parking by-law which, amongst other things, stipulates that a vehicle may not be parked on the street:
- in such a manner as to interfere with the clearing of snow from the highway
- between the hours of 2 and 6 a.m.
- for more than three (3) hours at a time
When there is a snow event, residents are required to immediately remove vehicles off the street during or immediately following a snowstorm to facilitate snow-clearing activities. Those vehicles that are issued permits are also required to remove their vehicles to allow the clearing of snow from the road. Parking enforcement officers will tag and may tow parked vehicles that interfere with the clearing of snow from the road.
Parking enforcement officers may tag or tow your vehicle if you park it on a driveway so that it hangs over the curb or blocks the sidewalk, as it may interfere with the clearing of snow from both the road and sidewalk.
Section 44 of the City of Brampton Traffic By-law states:
Parking or Standing Interfering with Snow Removal
“Notwithstanding any other provision of this by-law which permits the parking of vehicles on highways, no person shall park or stand a vehicle on a highway in such a manner as to interfere with the clearing of snow from the highway.”
