Environmental Master Plan

The City of Brampton is committed to reducing its energy consumption, becoming energy efficient and, where possible, finding ways of using renewable energy sources. For example, the City is a municipal leader in transforming its vehicle and transit fleet to use biodiesel fuel.

The City uses energy efficient LED lights in all of its traffic signals and all new and redeveloped City buildings and facilities, such as fire stations and recreation centres, are being designed and constructed with ‘green building’ components as outlined by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Development (LEED) standards.

In Earth Hour 2009, the collective efforts of Brampton’s businesses and residents in the City resulted in a 9.3% reduction in electricity, a 6.1% increase over our results in 2008.
