Volunteer Stories
Volunteer of the Year...
Each February, at our facility, Brampton Animal Services announces the Volunteer of the Year. The person selected has provided great assistance to Animal Services over the past year. They truly give of themselves to help the shelter animals. This award is just a small token of our gratitude.
This year’s Volunteer of the year is Leo O’Brien. Leo has been volunteering with the shelter for approximately 15 years. Leo has been a great friend to the animals that have come into our care. Rain or shine, snow or sleet we can count on Leo and his unicycle to dedicate his love and time to the animals in the shelter. During the past year Leo has helped the adoption dogs get their mental and physical exercise. Each dog is taken on a fast pasted walk, while Leo rides his unicycle wearing an adopt this dog sign. Leo continuously promotes the shelter everywhere he goes. Leo is always willing to help the public with information on the dogs he walks or about the shelter.
Leo has also been involved in the Heart Lake Road Ecology Monitoring Project. Leo was the driving force behind organizing the volunteers.
For these reasons Leo is our Volunteer of the Year. Please join us is saying thank you.
Angel to the Animals...
Every three-six months Brampton Animal services staff identifies a group of volunteers who have provide exceptional services to the shelter. This group is named Angel to the Animals.
Brampton Animal Service is proud to announce that Lee-anne and Shadea Campbell a mother and daughter team have been named Angels to the Animals. Lee-anne and Shadea have been fostering abandoned kittens for approximate 5 years. Shadea is our youngest volunteer and because of her big heart and dedication she and Lee-anne have hand feed, bathed, and most of all loved close to 70 kittens. At any given time we can rely on Lee- anne and Shadea to put their own lives on hold to care for this tiny little kittens.
The love and dedication that goes into each animal that comes into their home is remarkable and greatly appreciated.
We sincerely appreciate all the hard work and time that goes into fostering these lovely animals.
