Stella is a wonderful dog that enjoys her job helping to teach children about dog safety and responsible pet ownership. She has been filling this role for almost 2 years and enjoys having friends to the shelter and going to schools and fairs. Stella is a mix of Border Collie and Labrador Retriever. She has the perfect drive and intelligence of a Border Collie, but has just enough of a Lab in her to make her a perfect companion, and even a couch potato when she wants! Stella has so many friends she has lost count, because she loves everyone she meets.
Stella also serves as back-up to Rocket and Tango when needed for the City’s goose management program, which helps to keep pathways and parks clean the green way. That is not all. Stella is unusual. She has another job. Her love for youngsters stretches to help raise orphaned kittens! Stella actually helps out by cleaning kitten faces after they are nursed, giving them a nice tongue bath and then a warm body to curl up by and nap beside. The Animal Shelter often receives dogs that have not been properly socialized – either they have never been exposed to other dogs or have had negative experiences. In such circumstances, Stella shines. Within no time she manages to bring these shy dogs out of their shell and teaches them how to play with confidence. This helps the dogs with human interactions as well, so the shelter staff often solicit Stella’s help for these cases. Stella loves to play! Stella is truly a success story for shelter dogs. There are so many new friends who are happy that she came along to share her life with them. So the next time you are at the Animal Shelter looking to adopt, be sure to ask for her – she is often there, and would love to say hello!
