Phase 1

Transit Operator Knowledge and Skill Testing

Transit operator knowledge and skill testing consists of three (3) modules:

Module 1:
If you are invited for module 1 testing, you will receive an email invitation outlining the date, time, location and requirements for testing.
Module 1 testing consists of a people sense video test where you are asked customer service questions that are relevant to the Brampton Transit Division. Pass Rating Requirement: 75%.

Module 2:
Applicants who pass Module 1 testing will be contacted over the telephone and invited to participate in Module 2.
Module 2 is a computer-based evaluation designed to help assess your match with the Transit Operator position. The evaluation should take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete.

Module 3:
You will be invited to complete Module 3 if you are successful with modules 1 and 2. Module 3 must be completed before you attend your interview. Module 3 involves taking a ride on a Brampton Transit bus for a specified period of time and on a specific route, observing, and then completing a written assignment. You will be required to speak about your experience on the ride-along at your interview.

Phase 2

Competency Based Interview

The next stage of the recruitment process is the in-person interview for applicants who have successfully passed modules 1, 2 and 3. You will be contacted by telephone to book your interview.

The City of Brampton hires the best qualified candidates for the job by gathering factual information about the applicant and objectively assessing his or her ability to do the job. This is achieved by asking specific types of questions called behavioural interview questions. Behavioural based interviewing is based on the concept that past behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour. Our goal is to select the people who have the skills and experiences to meet the requirements and expectations of the position.

The City of Brampton suggests that you invest time researching how to appropriately respond to these types of questions. Examples of a behavioural based questions and a suggested strategy of how to respond can be found here.

Phase 3

Transit Operator Selection and Offer of Employment

Following the interview you will be notified through e-mail whether you were successful with your interview. If you are successful you may be asked to fulfill the following requirements:
