Becoming a Candidate
Nominations closed on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 2:00 pm
For this election, members will be elected for the period commencing December 1, 2010 and ending November 30, 2014, for the following offices:
Mayor
one to be elected by all electors of the municipality
Regional Councillors
one to be elected Wards 1 and 5
one to be elected Wards 2 and 6
one to be elected Wards 3 and 4
one to be elected Wards 7 and 8
one to be elected Wards 9 and 10
City Councillors
one to be elected Wards 1 and 5
one to be elected Wards 2 and 6
one to be elected Wards 3 and 4
one to be elected Wards 7 and 8
one to be elected Wards 9 and 10
Note: The 6th Regional Councillor will be appointed by Brampton City Council at a Special Council Meeting to be held in early December 2010.

Nomination forms may be filed during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, commencing January 4, 2010.

Be a qualified elector:
Fulfill the following requirements:
- Not be legally prohibited from voting
- Not be disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
A candidate, if nominated, must remain qualified throughout the election, and if elected, throughout the term of office.
School Board Trustee Candidate Qualifications:
In addition to the qualifications listed above, a person wishing to run for the office of School Board Trustee they should confirm that they meet the qualifications described in s.219 in the Education Act, including:
- The person is qualified to vote for members of that district school board or that school authority and is resident in its area of jurisdiction; and
- Qualified to be elected as a member of that district school board or school authority for any geographic area in the district school board’s or school authority’s area of jurisdiction, regardless of which positions on that district school board or school authority the person may be qualified to vote for.

The person submitting a nomination must:
- Submit the nomination form in person at the City Clerk’s Office
- Provide original documentation (fax, photocopies and emails will not be accepted)
- All candidates will be required to show proof of citizenship and proof of qualifiying address, at the time of filing.
At the time of filing a fee is payable by cash, debit card, certified cheque or money order – credit cards or non-certified cheques will not be accepted.
The filing fee is:
- $200 for the office of Mayor
- $100 for all other offices
No person who proposes to be a candidate may incur expenses, or solicit or accept contributions for election purposes, until the person has filed a nomination paper.
