The Brampton East Library and Community Centre is located on The Gore Road north of Castlemore Road. The full site is approximately 240 acres and extends from The Gore Road to the east to McVean Drive to the West, along Castlemore Road, which is the southern boundary. |
When is it being built? |
Construction began in fall of 2010. |
When will the building open? |
The building is scheduled to open in 2012. |
Why are you building it? |
The Brampton East Library and Community Centre will provide much needed services to the growing communities in northeast Brampton. This facility will help to meet the healthy lifestyle, multicultural and educational needs of Brampton families as the City is committed to helping families get active and stay active through its provision of recreation services. Residents are most proud of their parks, recreation and culture facilities and we are working to ensure we sustain that pride into the future. |
Will the library at the Mountain Ash Mall continue to operate? |
The interim Library at the mall will continue to operate until the new Bram East Library is in operation and the impact on the activity level at the interim site can be assessed. |
Will the new Library offer the same services and programming as the Chinguacousy Library including the study room? |
The functional plan for the new Library includes all of the features and services of the existing branches of Brampton Library. The study space is both individual study rooms and space, as well as, group study rooms and space. Where possible, we are looking to share this space with other service components of the larger building. |
Will there be more computers available to the public at the new Bram East Library? |
The new Library will include more bookable computer stations for both short and long term use, as well as, portable computers that can be used in the Library proper. A computer lab will be provided for training opportunities and programming. The lab will be a shared space. |
How did you establish your program requirements for the community elements in this building? |
We developed programming to fit the needs of the community. To do this the City of Brampton examined program popularity, user information, and participation. This was compared to programming available at other recreation centres in the area. By looking at latest trends of popular programs, we determined the anticipated demand of programs for youth, aquatics, fitness, program rooms etc. |
What activities will happen in the multi-purpose room and program rooms? |
The rooms can be rented for birthday parties, small socials and meetings. In addition a variety of new and challenging drop-in and registered programs for seniors, youth, preschool that may include: guitar lessons, cards, dominos, dancing, Cardio Groove, Graffiti Arts and after school drop-in programs. |
Are you building the swimming pool? |
The library and several components of the community centre (gym, meeting rooms) will be constructed first, with completion scheduled for the middle of 2012. Completion of the swimming pool and other components of the community centre are anticipated to occur in 2013-2014, subject to funding approvals. |
