Business Development and Marketing Advisory Team

Note: The Business Development and Marketing Advisory Team was not re-established by Council on December 7, 2010.  In accordance with Resolution C225-2010, Council referred the matter to obtain recommendations on the business development and marketing functions, and the need for an advisory committee.

The Business Development and Marketing Advisory Team was a voluntary body of industry, education and government representatives providing advice and support to the City of Brampton with respect to the recruitment and retention of employment and investment from targeted industries to targeted geographies in Brampton.  As an advisory body to the City, the Advisory Team was accountable to City Council and reported through the Committee of Council (Economic Development and Communications Section).


 

Mandate

The Business Development and Marketing Team provided advice and direction on the following economic development functions:

  • Local and Regional Competitiveness/Workforce Development
  • Economic Development Marketing Campaign
  • Service/Commercial Office Sector Attraction
  • Manufacturing Retention and Expansion
  • International Business Development
  • Ambassador Program (inbound and outbound)
  • Visitor Attraction/Tourism
  • Film Liaison

The Brampton Business Development and Marketing Advisory Team reports to Council through the Committee of Council Economic Development Section.

Working Teams

The Business Development and Marketing Advisory Team selected the individual chairs (and volunteers) for active project teams, such as the Brampton Outstanding Business Achievement Awards (BOBAA) and the Economic Development Advertising (Marketing) Committee, from the Advisory Team membership. These project teams reported to the Business Development and Marketing Advisory Team.

Where the specialized interests of the members warranted it, they participated in project implementation activities:

  • Providing specialized advice and input to program development through Program Advisory Committees, Cluster Committees, Ad Hoc Committees established to support the project.
  • Providing specialized advice and input via direct communication with City staff on matters relevant to their areas of expertise.

Business representatives to this Advisory Team were appointed for the term of Council ending November 30, 2010 (Elected Term of Council) and were required to have a business address in Brampton.


Meetings

The Brampton Development and Marketing Advisory Team met monthly, usually the fourth Monday of each month starting at 12:00 p.m.
