The Growth Management Program

The Growth Management Program (GMP) was developed in 2004 in response to unprecedented growth and the need to more closely coordinate the timing of new development with the provision of infrastructure and community infrastructure and services. The City’s Growth Management Program and other City programs have had a positive impact on the rate and quality of new development in Brampton.

The City of Brampton Official Plan

official planThe City’s response to the Growth Plan will require an Official Plan Amendment that will bring the City’s Official Plan into conformity with the Growth Plan by June 16, 2009. The City of Brampton Official Plan guides land use decision-making within the municipality for the next 25 years. The Plan is used to guide many development and infrastructure decisions on issues such as land use, built form, transportation and the environment.

The City of Brampton undertook an extensive review of its Official Plan which was approved by Council in October 2006. The Region of Peel approved the City of Brampton’s 2006 Official Plan on January 17, 2008. Portions of the 2006 Official Plan remain under appeal.
