Dedicating Parkland and Receiving "Cash-in-Lieu"
The parks and open spaces system in the City of Brampton provides opportunities for residents to participate in many recreational and leisure activities.
Obtaining Land for Parks
The City gets much of its parkland (except for land in valleys) by requiring developers to set aside part of a new development for parks. The Planning Act allows municipalities to receive this land - or cash equivalent to the value of the land - to build the City's parks and recreation system.
Parkland Dedication and "Cash-in-Lieu" By-law
The City of Brampton has a by-law that describes how the City calculates how much land must be dedicated for parkland - or pay in cash - in new development.
Administrating the By-law
The Planning Design and Development Department (Parks and Facility Planning Section) and the Buildings and Property Management Department (Realty Services Section) together administer the by-law.
The Parks and Facility Planning Section calculates the amount of parkland and cash-in-lieu of parkland dedication for all new subdivsions before developers register their plans. For more information about these calculations, please contact the Planning, Design and Development Department, Parks and Facility Planning Section.
The Realty Services Section calculates cash-in-lieu of parkland site for all commercial, industrial, medium and high-density residential applications. For more information about these calculations, please contact Realty Services at 905-874-2869.
