Parkland Dedication By-law Review

Thursday, Sep 10 2009, 02:00

The City has commenced a review of its Parkland Dedication By-law. The review is a comprehensive one involving an assessment of projected parkland needs in support of future growth, measured against parkland service level standards. The work involves looking at all areas of the City including the Downtown/Central Area, the outlying developing “Greenfields” areas and all lands in between.

The review will involve benchmarking of other municipalities in the Southern Ontario region to gain an assessment of current practices, for comparison purposes.

The intention is to create a new bylaw which updates and refreshes the current (2004) by-law, which has outdated provisions (including the Central Area High Density Incentive Program, which lapsed in October 2006) as well as create a new standard operating procedure that will detail the processes the City uses in calculating parkland dedication for all types of development.

Interdepartmental teams have been established to contribute to this review.
