Life Sciences
The Greater Toronto area (GTA) is home to over 40% of Canada’s life sciences industry, making Brampton a prime location for biotechnology firms, pharmaceutical companies, and research and development.
Labour Force
· Ontario universities produce 9,300 new life science graduates every year, in fields such as: biotechnology, biochemistry, biology, chemical engineering, chemistry and other related fields.
· Employment in Brampton’s life sciences sector is estimated at about 1,750 direct jobs and over 8,000 indirect jobs.
· Brampton’s health occupations sector has one of the largest growth rates, at 10% per year.

In addition to having a large labour pool of highly skilled workers, Ontario also has a 12.9% cost advantage over the US for research and development. As well, the life sciences sector is supported by a number of federal, provincial and local programs including:
