The City of Brampton and Powerade Centre were recently selected by Hockey Canada to host a 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships Pre-Competition Camp and exhibition game. The World Junior Hockey Championships are a Canadian Holiday Tradition and Brampton is extremely excited to now be a part of it.

“Brampton has a proud hockey history. And now, we are extremely pleased to bring a piece of World Junior Hockey Championships to our city. This promises to add an extra spark to the holiday season,” commented Mayor Susan Fennell.

For a full week this December, the Powerade Centre will be the host facility for the training camp of Team Czech Republic. The final event of the camp will be an exhibition game between Team Czech Republic and Team Sweden on Tuesday, December 23 at 7 pm. Team Czech Republic will open the tournament, being played in Ottawa, on Boxing Day against Team Canada. Team Sweden met Canada in the gold medal game of the 2008 tournament.

Tickets for the game on December 23 cost $15 each and are available in-person at the Powerade Centre, by phone at 905-459-9340x101 or on-line at www.ticketmaster.ca.

"The Powerade Centre and RealStar are excited to be part of this partnership with the City of Brampton," said Mike Hardcastle, General Manager of the Powerade Centre. "This camp and exhibition game will provide an opportunity to showcase both the community and venue to the international hockey community.”

The bid to host an International Team Camp in October of 2007 was made in partnership led by the Powerade Centre (RealStar) and the City of Brampton with support from the Brampton Youth Hockey Association, Brampton Battalion Hockey Club Ltd, The Ontario Minor Hockey Association, The Sports Medicine Specialists and others.

The partnership thanks Hockey Canada and the Host Tournament Organizing Committee for this opportunity and the chance to bring a piece of the World Junior Hockey Championships to Brampton
