William Osler Health Centre has announced that it is proceeding with the re-development of the Peel Memorial Hospital site. The planning and design phase has started and construction is slated to begin in 2010. A new multi- purpose health centre should be completed in 2012.
The new Peel Memorial will provide Brampton, Etobicoke and surrounding communities with urgent care, ambulatory care, outpatient surgical procedures, with a focus on primary care and chronic disease prevention and management as well as inpatient complex continuing care and rehabilitation.
William Osler Health Centre will manage all phases of the Peel Memorial re-development project, including planning and design and bidding and construction. It is anticipated that the planning and design stages will take approximately 18 months to 24 months to complete, with construction taking another 24 months.
“This new facility will serve the citizens of Brampton and the surrounding area and ensure that William Osler Health Centre can fully develop regional centres of excellence, providing services so that people will not have to leave their own community for care”, adds Mimi Lowi-Young, Central West LHIN Chief Executive Officer
.
“This is really great news for our community to have a new Peel Memorial on the drawing board. When it opens, Peel Memorial will dramatically increase William Osler Health Centre’s ability to provide multipurpose health care services. That will help take some of that load off Brampton Civic and Etobicoke General and allow these hospitals to focus their efforts even more on emergency, critical and acute care”, said White.
A re-developed Peel Memorial will continue to be an integral part of William Osler Health Centre, a family of hospitals including Brampton Civic and Etobicoke General, which together serve the health care needs of Brampton, Etobicoke and surrounding communities.
