New Dodge Challenger Rolls off the Line at Brampton Plant

Wednesday, May 21 2008, 03:00

On May 8, 2008, Councillor Sandra Hames participated in the exciting and much anticipated launch of the new Dodge Challenger that took place at Chrysler’s Brampton Assembly Plant. The plant, located on Chrysler Drive is also home to the Dodge Charger and award winning Chrysler 300.

Approximately 1,000 employees and invited guests joined Chrysler executive Vice President Frank Ewasyshyn for the celebration.

The Brampton Assembly Plant was constructed in 1986 and was acquired by Chrysler Corporation through the purchase of American Motors Corporation in 1987. The facility employs 3,200 employees and features Chrysler’s Flexible Manufacturing Strategy. This system allows for the production of higher quality products but at lower cost. A combination of off-the-shelf robotics, customized and interchangeable tooling are used to build several products on one assembly line.

In order to ensure that the quality targets were met, Brampton employees were an integral part in building pilot vehicles at the Chrysler Auburn Hills Technology Centre. Pre-production models were then assembled at the Brampton plant instead of at the pilot facility, allowing engineers the opportunity to test processes in a production environment.
