Green is the way to go. Brampton will soon see it’s second Leed certified development. First Capital Realty, Canada’s leading owner, developer and operator of supermarket-anchored shopping centres are planning to build a “green” shopping centre in Brampton.
The facility is still in the planning stages but will be located on McVean Drive on the east side of Brampton. The facility will be built on a 4 ½ acre site and will be comprised of 20-25 stores, 45,000 sq.ft. which will be designated for retail along with a bank, coffee shop, drug store and possibly a small grocery store.
The Leed rating system is the internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. Receiving Leed certification is the leading way for organizations to demonstrate that their building project is truly green. The certification promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environments health; sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
Construction start dates are not yet confirmed.
