Schools LogoBrampton’s Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School has been selected as one of six schools in North America to pilot the new Autodesk Animation Academy Curriculum during the 2010-11 school year. Students enrolled in the animation program will work in groups to develop storylines and create 3D games using the same technology used in iPhone, Xbox, Sony Playstation and Wii games.

“We’re extremely honoured to be selected for the Autodesk pilot program,” says Mary Nanavati, principal of Fletcher’s Meadow. “Our students have a tradition of great achievement in animation. This initiative will further challenge them to use their creative and critical skills to incorporate literature, mathematics and science to produce a final product they can be proud of.”

As part of the pilot, students will work closely with a software engineer from Unity3D, an Autodesk certified trainer and their technology teacher. They will be challenged to research historical events for their storyline, draw conceptual sketches of characters and interior environments, create environment wire frame models and produce animation-ready characters.

Autodesk is a leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software. Since its introduction of AutoCAD software in 1982, Autodesk continues to develop the broadest portfolio of state-of-the-art software for global markets.

Fletcher’s Meadow, which opened in 2004, has won gold at Skills Ontario in character animation for the last three years and a silver and bronze at the nationals.

Over 1900 students attend the school located at 10750 Chinguacousy Rd. in north-west Brampton.
