Brampton Outstanding Businesses Recognized

BOBAA LogoThe City of Brampton Economic Development Office and the Brampton Board of Trade are pleased to honour the exemplary accomplishments of Brampton’s outstanding local businesses. Congratulations to all of the 2010 Brampton Outstanding Business Achievement Award winners. The Awards were presented during a Gala Evening at Brampton's Rose Theater on Tuesday, May 11.

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING
Industrial Thermo Polymers Limited (ITP) is a leading manufacturer of extruded polyethylene foam products in North America. Under the name brand “TUNDRA”, ITP produces several key products. In 1988, ITP produced the first-ever commercial “Noodle” toy! Since that time, ITP has proven itself as a flexible and adaptive supplier of a variety of extruded polyethylene foam products. ITP produces, warehouses and ships from its 450,000 square foot facility in Brampton.

FOOD & BEVERAGE
apetito Canada is a leading supplier of quality frozen food and catering solutions. Their focus is to provide specialized, nutritious meals for seniors in the community, those in long-term care and patients in hospitals across the country. apetito is the new name for Private Recipes, which joined the apetito group in April 2007. In addition to Canada, apetito operates in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and The Netherlands.

INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
Brampton Media Corporation (BMC) was originally founded in 2002 as Brampton.com. BMC’s goal is to provide a primary online destination for Brampton residents and business owners. As a community portal, brampton.com provides event listings, classifieds, a business directory and local news for residents. On the business side, BMC provides a unique marketing outlet for businesses looking to target Brampton’s nearly 500,000 residents.

RETAIL & ADMINISTRATION
The Policaro Auto Group (PAG) was established in 1979 in Brampton. The group is family owned and operated by Basil, Tony and Paul Policaro. Currently, the group consists of six dealerships including Family Honda, Acura2000, Northwest Toyota, Northwest Lexus, and Pre-Owned Super Centre all located in Brampton, plus Acura in Barrie. The group employs over 300 people, all trained to achieve the highest level of standards and technology for customer satisfaction in the industry.

LOGISTICS
Shnier, Gesco is Canada’s leading, national, diversified floor covering solutions company. Founded in 1938, Shnier is a private, professionally led and managed Canadian corporation, comprised of 250 associates operating from five warehouse/office/showroom facilities strategically located coast to coast. The company relocated its headquarters to Brampton in 2000, and today, locally employs over 100 associates in a 250,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. Shnier markets a complete range of quality floor covering products under some of the leading brand names in the Canadian flooring industry.

BUSINESS SERVICE
The Business Development Bank of Canada is wholly dedicated to accelerating entrepreneurs’ success. Their mission is to help create and develop Canadian businesses through financing, venture capital and consulting services with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises. Having developed business relationships with 28,000 entrepreneurs across Canada, they understand the challenges faced every day.

EMERGING BUSINESS
Outdoor Photography Canada (OPC) magazine was launched in April 2007 in Brampton by SunLight Media, and was chosen as the winner of the 2007 Brampton Start-Up Business of the Year Award. In its first 10 months of operation, SunLight Media grew OPC from a national magazine to a publication with global appeal and presence. OPC is unique in that they are the first and only magazine in Canada providing readers with a how-to-do outdoor photography, and with 100% Canadian content. In July 2008, OPC became the number one selling photography magazine on Canadian newsstands.

AWARDS OF DISTINCTION – Community Contribution
Prouse Dash & Crouch (PDC) is a strong community member and has made significant charitable donations to a variety of local organizations. PDC, a full service law firm located in the heart of downtown Brampton, PDC has been providing legal services to the Brampton community for over 60 years. Their long-time presence in Brampton has enabled PDC to become a recognized institution in the community with the ability to offer a personalized and flexible approach to the legal services provided to clients.

AWARDS OF DISTINCTION – Environmental Leadership
Habitat for Humanity ReStore opened in the spring of 2005, selling quality used and surplus building and home improvement materials at a fraction of retail prices. Proceeds from ReStore support its affiliate, Habitat for Humanity, in building homes for low income families. ReStore provides an outlet for industry, retailers and individuals to donate home improvements materials, thus eliminating the cost of disposal. The concept is to reduce, reuse and recycle materials that would otherwise be put in landfill.
