Help celebrate International Macaron Day in Downtown Brampton at Macaronz located at 43 Queen Street East and help contribute to a great communit cause.

 

The Economic Development Office has launched a new Video Showcase Series that features businesses located in the Central Area. The purpose of the Video Showcase Series is to promote the Central Area as an attractive location for business investment and highlight some of the success stories that have developed in Downtown Brampton and the Queen Street Corridor.

Sulirmaos (Southern Brothers) Foodery has opened in Downtown Brampton at 73 George Street South. Sulirmaos adds to a long list of great restaurants in the core area. Opened by brothers Jason and John Pereira, Sulirmaos boasts an excellent selection of hot sandwiches and the brothers are passionate about delivering a savory experience for all their customers.

The City of Brampton Planning Design and Development Department and the Economic Development Program will be hosting an informtaion session on Monday November 19th, 2012 in the Brampton City Hall Atrium located at 2 Wellington Street West in Downtown Brampton.

 

Scoot-a-Long Eco-Friendly Electric Bikes & Scooters is a unique destination store that has opened in Downtown Brampton.  In October, Scoot-A-Long celebrated their Grand Opening and held a charity fundraiser that saw attendees take the Pink Hair Dare to raise money for the Wellspring Chinguacousy Cancer Support Centre.

A little bit of Hollywood came to Brampton recently as Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt opened in Brampton. Menchie’s is located at 100 Peel Centre Drive in the southwest retail pad of The Bramalea City Centre. Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt originated in Los Angeles and is currently a hot-spot for celebrity sightings as many stars have made Menchie’s their frozen yogurt favourite.

This past April 27th, The Rock School held a rockin’ grand opening event to celebrate their new location at 6 George Street South in Downtown Brampton. The Rock School has recently relocated to Downtown Brampton and offers a unique opportunity for inspiring musicians to learn in a creative and inspiring environment. The Rock School provides guitar, piano, drums and vocal lessons.

Pest Preventers is a new retail store located in Downtown Brampton, which specializes in do-it-yourself pest control. Located at 83 John Street, Pest Preventers celebrated their grand opening on April 17th, 2012. Pest Preventers are focused on educating residents in the Region of Peel and surrounding areas about the bed bug epidemic in addition to other common pest and wildlife issues.

New retailers continue to open at the Bramalea City Centre. The latest is Barburrito Mexican Grill. Located at 48 Peel Centre Drive in the northwest retail campus of the mall, Barburrito’s serves up quick Mexican favourites such as burritos, tacos and quesadillas.

The winner of DineTO’s  Best Indian Restaurant in 2010 has come to Downtown Brampton. Maroli  Indian Kerala Cuisine celebrated the Grand Opening of their new location at 31 George Street North in the downtown core. With a location  on Bloor Street West in Toronto, Maroli has also had their butter chicken featured on the Food Network and has been rated the best in Toronto. The restaurant specializes in Malabari cuisine from the southern regions of India.

Sun Life Financial celebrated the grand opening of a new office in the downtown core located at 8 Queen Street West. Advisor Angelo Mantzios heads the office along with support from his associates Karen Manchurek and Steve Kirk. Guests enjoyed delicious food while neighbouring downtown merchants dropped by to welcome Angelo and his team to the community.

The grand re-opening of Burger King located at 285 Queen Street East took place on January 26th, 2012. The restaurant is owned and operated by accredited franchisees John and Judy Mills who opened their first Burger King in 1978 and the Queen Street location in 1981. John and Judy have worked hard over the past 33 years to establish a reputation for excellence and make Brampton’s Burger Kings among the best in the Franchise’s system.  In fact, in 2010, the location at 285 Queen Street East was the highest volume free-standing Burger King in North America.

On Wednesday November 30th a new flower shop celebrated their grand opening in Downtown Brampton. Roses and Violets located at 111 Main Street North specializes in weddings, corporate and personal events, local and international deliveries.

On September 22nd, Moksha Yoga celebrated the grand opening of their new studio at the Bramalea City Centre retail campus located at 50 Peel Centre Drive.  Offering a full schedule of hot yoga classes, Moksha Yoga is a great place to unwind after a busy day.  The 3400 square foot studio employs 9 people and co-owner Paris Moghtader was delighted to give everybody on hand a tour of the practice area.

The Ice Cream Cafe is now open in Downtown Brampton at 23 Main Street South. The new cafe adds to an already diverse selection of food and treats located in the downtown core. On September 12th, Shawarma Boyz restaurant opened their doors at 239 Queen Street East. Located in the heart of the Queen Street Corridor, Shawarma Boyz offers an extensive menu of Mediterranean favourites. Owner Shiv K. Ratti promises that no one will be disappointed. Shawarma Boyz restaurant has created 6 new jobs in the Central Area and is an excellent addition to the great selection of restaurants located along the Queen Street Corridor.

On Wednesday July 6th, Starbucks officially opened a new Downtown Brampton location. Situated in the beautifully restored Dominion Building at 8 Queen Street East, the downtown Starbucks also boasts a large patio overlooking Garden Square and the Rose Theatre.  Store Manager Ajith Matthew was congratulated by Mayor Susan Fennell who welcomed Starbucks to the downtown business community.  

On June 24th, Dealer-Owner Paul Capobianco and his father Dominic will celebrate the grand opening of Brampton Home Hardware, their third Home Hardware store in the Greater Toronto Area. The store is located at 9 Hansen Road South and the celebration will begin at 9:00 a.m.

A full calendar of events and festivals is expected to attract up to a quarter-of-a-million people to the Brampton’s downtown core this summer.  Highlights in the schedule include two new special events, the IFFA Buzz Brampton Festival and The Brampton Global Jazz and Blues Festival.

Fresh, Healthy, Fun and Fast.  Pita Pit’s 4 brand pillars are what initially attracted Molly Tahem  to purchase the Brampton Pita Pit located at the corner of Kennedy Road & Queen Street East. Pita Pit is the world’s largest Pita Franchise with over 350 locations globally.  Since becoming the owner of the Brampton location in 2009, Molly has worked hard to improve every aspect of the business.  Her first step was to complete a restaurant makeover.  Pita Pit unveiled a bright, fresh, new look to better connect with adults, professionals and families.

The Lone Star Texas Grill is now open at 156 West Drive on the Queen Street Corridor. The new 5000 square foot restaurant is the first Lone Star location to be built from the ground up and is the 14th Lone Star Texas Grill location in Ontario. The restaurant is known for serving up the best fajitas in town and can boast of a mouth watering menu, which includes all the Tex-Mex favourites and some of the best chicken and ribs around.

On Friday March 25th, Mayor Susan Fennell and several members of council were on hand to help celebrate the grand opening of Poutine Dare to be Fresh as the new restaurant opened at 20 Main Street South in Downtown Brampton.  Poutine Dare to be Fresh specializes in serving the traditional Quebec  favourite  Poutine , a dish made by topping french fries with cheese curds and gravy.

On February 22nd, Freshly Thai restaurant located in the heart of downtown celebrated their grand opening. Freshly Thai is excited to be bringing authentic Thai cuisine to the downtown. Operated by sisters Suporn, Pan and Rin, Freshly Thai is located at 48 Queen Street West and adds to the already great selection of international flavours located in the core.

On January 15th,  the grand opening of Nitro Fitness Plan took place. Located at 279 Queen Street East unit 4, Nitro Fitness Plan specializes in bootcamp style training and has opened a first of its kind facility in Brampton designed specifically for bootcamp classes. Ninko Pangilinan who is the President  and owner of Nitro Fitness Plan is also the instructor.

On January 14th, DowntownStyle located at 8 Queen Street West  in the heart of the “Four Corners” business district, celebrated their grand opening.  DowntownStyle is a home furnishings store and provides a unique collection of modern, rustic and vintage pieces. Operated by entrepreneur Steve Chalmers, DowntownStyle adds to the growing collection of niche retailers in the downtown business improvement area.

On December 7th, Eikonic House of Barbers celebrated their grand opening. Eikonic is located at 50 Peel Centre Drive in the new retail campus of the Bramalea City Centre at the corner of Dixie Road and Queen Street. Specializing in men’s grooming, Eikonic offers services ranging from defined haircuts, hair tattoos and hot towel shaves.

There have been several new business openings in the downtown area recently. DowntownStyle located at 8 Queen Street West is a furniture and decor store The selection is a mix of modern contemporary and Muskoka Canadian pine. Not Too Shabby is located at 46 Main Street North and specializes in shabby chic furniture design for homes and cottages.

Algoma University at Brampton has moved to the downtown core. Previously located in Sheridan College, Algoma’s downtown location resides at 24 Queen Street East in the Market Square Business Centre. Classes officially began downtown in early September and Algoma’s Brampton location provides courses in business administration and computer science programs.

 

A brochure highlighting residential and commercial construction activity in the central core has now been placed online. The brochure contains information on the many exciting developments happening in the Downtown Brampton and Queen Street Corridor area. 

On June 10th, 2010  GTA Chronic Pain Relief Clinic celebrated their grand opening. The downtown Brampton business is located at 45 George Street South. GTA Chronic Pain Relief Clinic specializes in pain rehabilitation and management by natural, drug-free treatment.

Hanh Heritage Spa and Salon celebrated their grand opening on Tuesday March 23rd, 2010. Located at 17 Chapel Street in Downtown Brampton in a century old home, Hanh’s has converted the building into a luxurious spa.

On April 29th 2010, Burrito Boyz restaurant celebrated their grand opening at their newest location. Burrito Boyz is located on the Queen Street Corridor at 210 Queen Street East and specializes in mexican cuisine.
