Issuing Licences

The City of Brampton issues or renews licences for approximately 750 mobile licences each year for taxis, limousines, tow trucks, driving schools, refreshment vehicles, etc.

Mobile licences are issued by an Enforcement Clerk at the Enforcement and By-Law Services Division following inspection of the vehicle by a licencing inspector to ensure compliance with the applicable schedule within the Licensing By-law 1-2002.

For more specific information about what is required to obtain or renew a mobile licence in the City of Brampton, see the City’s Mobile Licensing Chart or click on one of the specific mobile business licence links below.

Enforcement

The Licensing Enforcement team makes sure that vehicles, owners and operators meet the strict qualifications under the City's mobile licencing bylaw before the City can issue or renew licences.

Some of these qualifications require some operators to successfully write exams, confirm valid insurance, get mechanical safety checks and allow health inspections to regularly inspect their vehicles. In some cases, inspectors make sure that vehicles meet strict criteria on safety, proper operation, consumer satisfaction and rider comfort.

The City’s inspectors are on the streets daily to seek out unlicenced vehicles, monitor licenced vehicles and enforce the City's mobile vehicle regulations.
