The safety of our employees and customers is a top priority.
In January 2015 we launched our bus Operator safety shield pilot project and outfitted six buses with different safety shield prototypes. These prototypes were put into service in 2017, and were reviewed to help us gain insight on their effectiveness. We received feedback from our Operators and riders, and in the spring of 2018 two additional buses were outfitted with new prototypes for final testing.
On June 27, 2018, Brampton City Council unanimously approved recommendations to move forward with the installation of “slider” style Operator safety shields on the existing fleet and all new buses purchased moving forward. Installations will begin as soon as possible, and it is estimated to take approximately 18 months to complete.
Operator shields are one more way Brampton Transit can protect our Operators and continue to keep customers safe.
