This session will cover some of the legal aspects and considerations for managing a not-for-profit organization. It will provide fundamental, practical information on the creation and operation of a not-for profit organization, including the importance of bylaws, AGMs and financial statements. The workshop will also highlight provisions of the relevant legislation that governs not-for-profit organizations. The session will appeal to people who are already involved in a not-for-profit organization or are considering creating one.
About the Instructor: Jennifer Zubick, B.A. (Honours), M.A., LL.B, LL.M
Jennifer received her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology / Sociology from the University of Guelph, her Master of Arts degree in Sociology / Criminology from the University of Windsor, her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Windsor - Faculty of Law and her Master of Laws degree in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Osgoode Hall - Law School. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2000.
In addition to teaching part time for the Chang School at Ryerson University, Jennifer is a full time Professor with Humber College and an adjunct Professor for Algonquin College. She also works as a Hearing Officer for the City of Mississauga to adjudicate parking and licensing matters. Her previous professional experience also included working as the Assistant Solicitor for the Town of Newmarket, a Policy Specialist for the Regional Municipality of York, a Provincial Prosecutor for the Ministry of the Attorney General, and as a Mediator for the Information and Privacy Commission. Jennifer has written two text books – Provincial Offences for Paralegals and ADR for Legal Professionals.
