Brampton to replace Gore Meadows Phase Two contractor

BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton recognizes the importance of the Gore Meadows expansion to the community and has set a priority to finish construction as soon as possible. Throughout this project, the City has taken every step possible within the construction contract to push for timely completion of the facility. While some delays can be expected on any construction project of this size, scope and complexity, the extent of the delays at Gore Meadows has been unreasonable. As a result, the City has decided to terminate the existing contractor’s right to work on the property, effective immediately.

The City is taking steps to complete the project as quickly and efficiently as possible to get this facility open to the public at the earliest opportunity. More information, including an anticipated opening date, will be provided within the next few weeks.

This decision will not impact users of the existing Gore Meadows Community Centre and Library. All programming will proceed as normal. Fitness members at Gore Meadows will be contacted directly to discuss impacts to temporary memberships.

The City of Brampton apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the delays at Gore Meadows and appreciates the patience the community has shown.

The Gore Meadows Community Centre and Library phase two is an 80,000 square foot addition to the existing building, featuring a state-of-the-art aquatics facility, a fitness centre including an indoor track, as well as an outdoor skating rink and spray pad. The phase two expansion will seek LEED Silver certification in recognition of environmentally-friendly design and construction.
