Brampton freezing rain update: what you need to know

Brampton is under a freezing rain warning today, February 6. Here’s what you need to know:

Salting
Crews were out during the night pre-treating roads in advance of the freezing rain, and they are back out salting today. Visit www.brampton.ca/snow for updates.

Safety
Freezing rain and icy conditions are expected to continue throughout the day and into tomorrow. Travelling conditions will be poor. If you need to travel today, do so with extreme caution. Slow down and give yourself plenty of extra time to get where you need to go.

Brampton is expected to receive about 5 mm of rain over the next 24 hours. Ice accumulation is not expected to be enough to cause any major issues with tree branches or power lines, but conditions are being monitored and updates will be provided as needed. Alectra is not reporting any power outages in Brampton at this time.

It is always important for families to be prepared in case of emergency. For tips on preparing a 72-hour emergency kit, visit www.brampton.ca/prepared.

Transit
Brampton Transit is experiencing route delays across the system. Please leave yourself lots of extra travel time. For updates, follow @BramptonTransit on Twitter or call 905.874.2999. Be careful and watch your step at bus stops and terminals.

Recreation Centres
Recreation facilities and programs are currently running as scheduled. For information and updates, visit www.brampton.ca/recreation.

Outdoor Skating Rinks
Chinguacousy Park, Gage Park, and Mount Pleasant Outdoor Skating Rinks are closed due to the weather. For up-to-date rink status, click here.
