Celebrate the City of Brampton’s first ever community Garba

BRAMPTON, ON (October 10, 2019) – The City of Brampton is hosting its first ever community Garba on Friday, October 18 from 7 to 11 pm at the CAA Centre, located at 7575 Kennedy Road South. Everyone is invited to take part in this lively cultural celebration! Doors open at 6 pm.

Garba celebrations feature traditional dance, music and Gujarati food, as part of the nine-day Navratri festival, which is recognized by Hindu communities around the world. Join us for dancing, speeches and aarti, a prayer ceremony. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.

This event features a roster of live entertainment, including headliner Ravin Naik, an award-winning singer, composer and musician who has toured internationally and performed at Gujarati festivals around the world. Local talent Darshana Thaker, a classically trained singer who runs the Swaraagini School of Music in Brampton, will open for Naik. Jaymin Thakkar, a former TV news anchor in Gujarat, and current radio show host with RedFM Canada, will emcee.

Admission is free with a non-perishable food donation for a local food bank. The City will collect donations on behalf of Knights Table, Seva Food Bank and Ste. Louise Outreach.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early due to space limitations in the building and on the dance floor.

This event is part of Brampton’s Community Recognition Program, a series of cultural celebrations that the City has hosted throughout the year to honour Brampton’s diversity. These events are a great opportunity for residents to learn about other cultures and get to know the many communities that make up our city.
