Have your say on Brampton’s age-friendly strategy

BRAMPTON, ON – With an average age of 36.5, Brampton is one of the Canada’s youngest big cities. But it also has a rapidly growing older population - according to Statistics Canada, Brampton’s 50+ population increased by 40 per cent between 2011 and 2016. That’s why the City is developing an age-friendly strategy to make Brampton a better place to live at all stages of life.

A key initiative supporting Brampton’s 2040 Vision, the age-friendly strategy will help ensure residents have the services and support they need to stay healthy, age safely, and enjoy a high quality of life. It focuses on key areas used by the World Health Organization to define age-friendly communities, including public transportation, housing, public buildings and outdoor spaces, employment, social inclusion and community services.

The City can’t do it alone – to develop a strategy that works, public input is key. There are a number of ways for all Brampton residents to have their say.

Quote
“Brampton’s diversity in terms of its ethnicity and age is one of its key strengths. To ensure the city provides the type of living experience that reflects our residents’ wants and needs, it is important that we hear from the public. I was happy to initiate the age-friendly strategy in Council and I’m proud to see us reach this stage of public input. I encourage everyone to take part in the upcoming workshops and ensure their voices are heard.”
