​​​​​​European leader in sustainable mobility brings high-tech assembly facility to city

BRAMPTON, ON – The newest addition to Brampton’s world-class advanced manufacturing sector brings jobs and technology to the city, and builds momentum for new manufacturing investments.

Earlier today, Mayor Linda Jeffrey joined the Honourable Steven Del Duca, Minister of Economic Development and Growth, to announce Alstom's new assembly facility for light rail vehicles (LRVs) and related components.

In May 2017, the Province announced a contract worth $528 million with Alstom to provide 61 vehicles for light rail transit (LRT) projects in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), with an option to acquire an additional 44 vehicles. This significant investment will create between 100 and 120 full-time jobs at the new facility and provide an opportunity for Brampton’s highly-skilled workforce to find high-paying local jobs. It will also lead to between 400 and 500 spinoff jobs across Peel and the GTHA.

City officials first met with Alstom in October 2017 and implemented a coordinated approach to client service, providing one conduit to municipal services for the business community.

Over 30 per cent of Brampton’s economic output is generated by the Advanced Manufacturing sector. With a highly diversified economy, a steady flow of well-educated, skilled labour and a strategic position in the country, Brampton’s advanced manufacturing sector is a world class powerhouse of production as it is the city’s largest industry by employment, accounting for almost a quarter of Brampton's workforce.

As a promoter of sustainable mobility, Alstom develops and markets systems, equipment and services for the transport sector. Headquartered in France, Alstom is present in over 60 countries and employs 32,800 people.
