8:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Hundreds of millions of people, businesses and governments around the world unite each year to support the largest environmental event in history – Earth Hour.

More than 6,950 cities and towns in 152 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2012 alone, sending a powerful message for action on climate change.

Since joining the Earth Hour initiative in 2008, the City of Brampton has been extremely successful.  In 2012, thanks to both residents and businesses, Brampton had a 5.9 per cent decrease in energy consumption during Earth Hour. This works out to 25.3 megawatt decrease – equivalent to removing 21,000 homes from the distribution system during that hour.

Brampton encourages residents and businesses to turn off all non-essential lights during Earth Hour. Energy conservation is of ever growing importance. Consider going beyond the hour to save energy all year round!

About Earth Hour

Earth Hour is organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). In 2006, WWF-Australia inspired Sydney-siders to show their support for climate change action in the first ever Earth Hour event. Then in March 2007 in Sydney, Australia, 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights out for one hour to take a stand against climate change for WWF’s official Earth Hour launch.
