Brampton Celebrates its Sister City

Brampton Sister CityA sister city relationship is a broad-based, long-term partnership between two communities in separate countries. Sister city relationships provide the opportunity to form connections between communities that are mutually beneficial and address issues that are relevant to both partners.

Brampton has had a sister city relationship with Miami Beach, Florida, since 2008. The agreement between these two cities highlights their mutual desire to develop cultural and economic ties, and strengthen links between the institutions and public organizations of the two cities.

On June 25, a Sister City Garden was unveiled in Chinguacousy Park to celebrate the relationship between Brampton and Miami Beach. The garden design matches a similar one that was unveiled in Miami Beach last October. More information on sister cities and pictures of the Sister City Garden unveiling are available on Brampton's website.

Züm Coming to Bovaird

Zum Brampton Brampton Transit is excited to begin phase II of the Züm Bus Rapid Transit project with the launch of Züm Bovaird on September 2. Service will run from the Mount Pleasant GO Station along Bovaird Drive to Queen Street and Goreway Drive via Humberwest Parkway.

This new route provides an additional east-west service corridor to Brampton Transit riders and connects all three Züm routes together, further improving the rapid transit network. Phase II also includes the westbound extensions of service along Steeles Avenue to the Lisgar GO Station in Mississauga in 2015, and along Queen Street to the Mount Pleasant GO Station in 2016.

The City continues to make public transit a priority, in partnership with the Provincial and Federal governments

Stay Cool

When the city experiences a sustained heat alert, residents can visit Cooling Centres set up throughout Brampton. City pools and splash pads also extend hours during sustained heat alerts.

Back to School Safety

Before the kids head back to school, brush up on safety tips from the Brampton School Traffic Safety Council. The next issue of its "School Zone" newsletter will be out in early September. Watch for street signs in your neighbourhood, one week before the City pickup is scheduled.
