Brampton Votes

If you are a Brampton-based Canadian citizen, 18 years or older, there is still time to add yourself to the Voters' List. If you have not already received your Voter Notice, call the Election Office at 905.874.2424 or email bramptonvotes@brampton.ca to find out how you can add your name to the list.


You will need to provide proof of Canadian citizenship, age and qualifying address. You may be added at the Clerk's office or at the voting location. Voters can also appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf by completing an application in the prescribed form. You can find more information here or call the Election Office for details.


On October 27, voting will be open from 10 am to 8 pm, after which unofficial results will be posted on the Election webpage, updated every 15-20 minutes.


The newly elected Council will begin its term on December 1. Until that time, residents can continue to contact the current Council.

Be a 2015 Pan Am Games torchbearer

Brampton Votes

Brampton has been selected as a Celebration Community for the 2015 Pan Am Torch Relay and you can be a torchbearer.


Experiencing the torch relay will be a remarkable Games legacy for torchbearers and our community.


The TORONTO 2015 Torch Relay for the Pan Am Games will feature 3,000 torchbearers who will carry the Pan Am flame along its 41-day journey and share the Pan Am spirit in more than 130 communities.


The TORONTO 2015 Torchbearer Contest is open from October 1 to December 1, 2014. Torchbearers will be selected through a random draw and one entry per person is permitted. Selected entrants will be notified starting in December.

Economic Development Activities - Growing Innovation and Creativity in Brampton

Over the remainder of 2014, there are many events and activities to promote economic growth, creativity and innovation in Brampton.

Look for workshops and seminars to help entrepreneurs grow their skills and businesses. Participate in the Brampton Entrepreneur Night Out on Oct. 30, capping off Small Business Month and celebrating the new location of the Brampton Economic Development and Tourism Office and the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre.

Whether you're opening a business, developing a business plan or transforming an established business, the Brampton Entrepreneur Centre has expertise to help propel your ideas forward.

Tech Talks is a lecture series coming this fall, highlighting the intersection of creativity and technology, and organized to help build Brampton's creativity collective and inspire innovation. There will be hands-on experiences for all ages at the new Makerspace-Brampton's Creative Hub-hosting technology and expertise from Sheridan College's Centre for Advanced Manufacturing, Design and Technology.

Economic Development

With fall in the air and winter just around the corner, the City of Brampton is looking forward to the upcoming season's events. There is something for everyone, from honouring our veterans to celebrating the festive season to ringing in the new year.

Details are listed in the Great Things Are Happening section of this newsletter and are also listed in the Events Calendar on the City's website.

Remembrance Day parades and services allow you to commemorate our veterans and their sacrifice during times of war and conflict.


Christmas in the Downtown encompasses three annual events 1) the City of Brampton Christmas Tree Lighting, 2) the Brampton Board of Trade Santa Claus Parade and 3) the Brampton Downtown Development Corporation Christmas Market - all in one exciting weekend!


The Chinguacousy Ski Chalet Open House invites families to learn more about the activities on offer at Brampton's premier recreation facility this winter.


And New Year's Eve promises to be very entertaining as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the City of Brampton.

FIREWORKS PERMIT REQUIRED FOR DIWALI

Planning to use fireworks for Diwali? Make sure you have a
valid permit issued by the City. Apply online for a free fireworks permit by October 20. With a valid permit, fireworks are permitted only on October 22 and 23, 2014. Fireworks without a permit are illegal.

CARBON MONOXIDE AWARENESS WEEK

Ontario's inaugural Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week is November 2-8, 2014. There will be activities raising awareness of the dangers of this "silent killer". Get informed and protect your family.

KEEP OUR CITY IDLE-FREE

Did you know that as little as 10 seconds of idling uses more fuel than when you restart your engine? Remember to turn off your engine if stopped for more than three minutes. The City's Idling Control By-law is aimed at reducing the impact of idling on air quality and public health.

WE'RE READY TO CLEAR THE WAY!
