A lifelong resident of the City of Brampton, John Hutton was first elected to Council in 1985.
After graduating from the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture, Councillor Hutton owned and managed Hutton Nurseries for 23 years.
Councillor Hutton’s training and experience in horticulture has served him well in fulfilling his duties with Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) for more than 30 years. He is currently Vice-Chair and continues to be actively involved.
He also sits on the Region of Peel Agricultural Advisory Working Group. Councillor Hutton is an active member of the Norval pit-STOP Community Organization and currently sits on the Brampton Heritage Board and the Toronto Region Conservation Authority’s (TRCA) Heartlake Advisory Committee.
Councillor Hutton has contributed enthusiasm, experience and dedication to four Standing Committees of Council: Economic Development, Planning, Building and Design, Works and Transportation and Community Services.
He also sits on a number of Council Sub-Committees including: the Farmer’s Market Team and the Environmental Master Plan Committee. His is currently Co-Chair of the Brampton Environmental Planning Advisory Committee (BEPAC).
Councillor Hutton’s commitment to Wards 2 and 6 is reflected by his long-term appointment with the Churchville Cemetery Committee, having devoted 30 years of volunteer service as Chairman to that organization.
Councillor Hutton divides his time between his responsibilities as a City Councillor and participation on a number of community committees and boards, such as the Churchville Heritage Advisory Committee, Brampton NW Connects and the Salvation Army Community Council. In 2006, he was honoured by the Brampton United Achievers’ Club and received their Community Award. An Award of Distinction was presented to Councillor Hutton by Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School during Education Week 2008. He is also a Charter Member and Past President of the Flower City Kiwanis Club – an organization that has served Brampton for more than 40 years.
Councillor Hutton and his wife Joyce live in rural west Brampton.
